Terrarium Workshop

May 11th, 2012

Join City Planter staff for a Friday night terrarium building class. This is our most popular class and a great way to spend some crafty time with your friends before you start your weekend.

Like our classes before, the cost is $50 per person and includes everything you need to build and take home your very own personal terrarium. We will serve light refreshments before (and during!) class so feel free to make those dinner plans late and come create your own little world. We will send you on your way with all the knowledge you need to keep your new creation well loved.

These classes have been selling very quickly, so we recommend purchasing your spot early as there is a limited number of spots.

We hope to see you there!

Class costs are final sale. Sorry, no refunds.

First Friday

May 04th, 2012

This event is free! Just stop by City Planter during First Friday Hours!

Explore a new neighborhood of Philadelphia. Northern Liberties is a vibrant community filled with unique shops, bars, restaurants and more! We are nestled in between Old City and Frankford ave in Fishtown. Both are bustling neighborhoods on first friday. If you are already heading to old city, no libs is just 1 subway stop away or just a quick 15 minute walk. Each participating retail shop will be offering a base discount of 10% off, light refreshments, plus other fun surprises every First Friday of the month from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Shop, Eat, Drink, Play and Save in NoLibs. Maps will be available at all participating shops!

In addition to the 10% off shopping discount, City Planter will be featuring a plant or garden related artist each month. Stop in, shop, snack on some refreshments, and meet the artist (or artists) of the month. Artists will be there to sell their works as well as answer any questions you might have about their pieces. You don't need to go all the way to Old City to meet local artists on First Friday!

Mini Woolly Pocket Herb Garden Workshop

May 02nd, 2012

If you are a frequent guest at City Planter you know we love Woolly Pockets, the recycled plastic bottle, indoor/outdoor, green wall planters. Well, they have a new product: the mini wally which measures a mere 13 inches across and 8 inches high. We took one look at it and knew it would make a great kitchen herb planter, no counter space required!

Come to this after work workshop to learn all about Woolly Pockets, growing herbs inside, and proper planting and watering techniques. Each person will get their own mini wally planter and selection of herbs and City Planter staff will be on hand to help as you plant your own kitchen herb container. At the end of class, you take it home with you, and its light weight makes it easy to install! Just use the included dry wall anchors and screws and pop in a sunny spot (of course we will go over installation more in depth at the class, too)

Class space is limited and the cost includes all the materials you will need! So register today!

Kokedama Workshop - April 14th

Apr 14th, 2012

If you came to the store or our booth at the Philadelphia Flower Show, you saw the next big thing in the horticulture world: kokedama - the Japanese string garden.

We have them available to purchase, but perhaps you want to build one of your own? Well, now you can.... This workshop will guide you through the process of kokedama, from hand-blending the soil mix to picking what plants and mosses work. Plus, we will share our own tips and secrets that we had to learn the hard way.

Class is $40 and includes all the materials and instruction you will need to create you own string gardens to take home (you will make a small and a medium garden, since they look better in groups). Space is limited.

NOTE: YOU WILL GET DIRTY AT THIS WORKSHOP

The Philadelphia Flower Show is only days away and what better way to get ready for the island life than to join City Planter for a Hawaiian happy hour in the store.

Mary is ready to light a fire and grill you some delicious kebabs (mmmm, grilled pineapple!) and rumor has it the fixings for some Mai Tais might be on hand as well.
